2018 – Goals, Motivation, & Additions

Hello there! Happy New Year!!

Cheers to a new you, a new mindset, and new perspective.  If you need a fresh clean slate use this Monday to start! You are more than capable of achieving your goals and resolutions even if these are the same ones you had in 2012. However, one thing you must do is change your perspective and discipline yourself. If you continue to work towards something and keep that same mindset that you have always had, you will not get anywhere. You have to change your mindset, your perspective and see yourself attaining the goal with a brand new set of glasses, a brand new vision. When you discipline yourself, you allow yourself to become accustomed to work towards the goal that you set for yourself regardless of how you feel. It teaches you to push past the emotions and get the job done. Your feelings matter, but at the end of the day you have a bar you are trying to reach, a finish line you are trying to cross and it’d be a shame to let something so minute deter you from that. With that being said, lets live our BEST life in 2018! Let’s reach for the impossible and see how God takes us there. This year WILL be filled with blessings on blessings! You better be ready to receive!

Hair Goals & Changes

In one of my previous posts, I mentioned that I would be getting my hair cut and well its cut! I wanted to start the New Year with a clean slate and my ends were horrible. I realized I don’t take care of my ends as well as I thought. I didn’t have a set regimen and my hair suffered from it. Unfortunately, I did not get it cut the way I hoped because I was too scared lol. So I just got my ends trimmed and it feels so much better and softer but a lot was taken off. Heat was not used because I do not want to risk getting heat damage again. This year I am doing another challenge by Jessica Lewis (MahoganyCurls on Youtube) and below is what the challenge will consist of.

“Hey guys! I hope all of you are ready to start the new challenge! Oh yeah, Happy New Year! Alright, let’s get to this. Challenge II will be an experiment challenge. We will be using hair growth supplements to see if they really work. It will be very interesting. You are free to use any supplement of your choice. If you are breastfeeding or pregnant, prenatal vitamins will work also.
Rules
Start out by taking a before photo of your hair. If you are wearing your hair in a wash n go (make sure you take your future photos the same way). If you are wearing your hair straight, do the same thing, if you’re wearing a twist out, again, do the same thing. This will allow to keep track of your progress. I suggest wearing the same shirt as well too.
Choose a vitamin. This is totally up to you.
Drink your water. Your water intake is sooooo important to your health.
Keep your regimen simple. Low manipulation is very helpful when it comes to your hair journey.
Take your supplement everyday. (Or as instructed on the packaging).
Take an updated hair growth photo every 3 months. This is when most people usually see results.
If you are experiencing negative effects from your supplement, stop taking them.
Have fun!
Happy Hair Growing!”
Also I will be following a strict regimen and protective styles will be my best friend! Here is the regimen I will be following. This is also from the hair challenge.
  • Sunday

    • Scalp Massage for 10-15 minutes with your favorite oil (oil is optional) using the pads of your fingers or a scalp massaging brush.
    • Cowash or shampoo your hair (use warm or lukewarm water…please do not use hot water).
    • Deep Condition for 30 minutes. You can cover your hair with a plastic cap and sit under a hooded dryer or you can use a hair steamer. Rinse with cool water.

    Styling

    Wash n go/Two Strand Twists/ Twistouts / Protective Style
    • Add a moisturizing leave in conditioner to your wet/damp hair and detangle.
    • Section your hair and proceed to styling it with your favorite styler.
Note: You can use a microfiber towel or a t-shirt to remove the excess water if you do not want soaking wet hair. This will also help speed up the drying process.

    Drying

Air drying is the best method of drying your hair. Give yourself enough time to style and dry your hair.
    • If you need to dry your hair faster, sit under a hooded dryer on low heat or the cool setting. The cool setting is best. If you must use a diffuser please use it on the cool setting. You can also sit in front of a fan. Air drying is BEST!

    Nighttime Care

    • Put your hair in a pineapple (high ponytail) with a satin scrunchie (if you’re wearing a twistout or wash n go) and cover it with a satin bonnet. You can also tie it up with a satin scarf and/or sleep on your satin pillowcase.
If you are wearing a protective style
    • Cover your hair with a satin bonnet or scarf and/or sleep on your satin pillowcase.

    Next day routine

    Wash n gos/ and twistouts
    • Moisturize your ends every day until it is time to re style your hair with your favorite creamy moisturizer.
    Protective Styles
    • Your hair should be moisturized from the products you used. You can always moisturize your ends if you feel they are dry.

    Thursday

    Water Rinsing
Since you have already cowshed or shampooed your hair for the week, you will only be using water to remove any products or light buildup that you may have. This will help with retaining moisture in your hair.
    • Use lukewarm to warm water while rinsing your hair. Your hair should still feel clean if you are rinsing properly.Using products that are free of silicones will prevent buildup.
    • Deep Condition for 30 minutes. You can cover your hair with a plastic cap and sit under a hooded dryer with warm air or use a hair steamer. Rinse with cool water.

I am choosing to follow this regimen because it breaks everything down. I will modify this routine to my schedule once I get back to school but I doubt I will be changing anything major. I will be focusing on my health and fitness as well to exercising and eating right will produce benefits for my hair as well. This year I will not be using any heat whatsoever and when wearing protective styles I will not exceed 4 weeks. I found that wearing a protective style for 5 weeks or more my hair become very brittle and dry thus resulting in split ends and breakage. As far as hair goals for this year, my main goal is for it to be healthy. Length is not my main concern but I am hoping to reach below my chin and armpit length by January 1, 2019. It is an extreme goal given that I just cut my hair but I think its possible if I stick with a healthy hair regimen so we will see! Below is my hair length after my hair cut. I will update you guys every 3 months to show you my progress.
